What we’re about

Unmanned Systems have challenged the notion of “possible” since the industry was born circa World War I. Like our agile industry, Insitu has changed and grown constantly since our inception in the early 1990s. Though we have outgrown the garage from which our first UAVs were produced, our passionate team strives to embody the original entrepreneurial spirit, ethics and vision that our founders established two decades ago and continue to drive our innovation and vitality today and onward.

We empower our global customers to make the best, most informed decisions possible. We do this by creating industry-leading integrated systems that collect, process and distribute information for decision-makers.

Team Insitu is driven by four pillars.

Pioneer

Our pioneering spirit is derived from a genuine passion for what we do and an intention to remain at the forefront of change in this dynamic industry, constantly raising the standards and pushing the boundaries. For our blog, this pillar represents leading technology developments that drive the Unmanned Systems industry.

Perform

This category encompasses industry developments that inspire and challenge our team to deliver the most effective and efficient solutions possible, and pivot quickly when our customers need us to.

Unite

Our team stands together, made only stronger by our diversity in thought and location. This synergy encompasses not only those within our company, but also our customers, aviation regulators, industry thought-leaders, and countless others whose contributions collectively and constantly drive us to think bigger.

Care

As a global company, we are fortunate to be a part of many diverse communities. Some of these communities revolve around where we are, while others are inherent to what we do. Regardless of how we relate, Team Insitu values and supports each community member, and embraces the uniqueness that each one brings to our culture and industry.

Unmanned Solutions

By Ryan Hartman, President and CEO

As a leader, I ask that my teams respond to challenges with a “Yes, if…” solution rather than a “No, because…” answer. Though these essentially convey the same idea, the “Yes, if…” option requires us to deliver a solution, rather than an excuse for avoiding a challenging situation. My experience in the Unmanned Systems market has revealed to me that our industry is full of “Yes, if…” people. Our industry doesn’t tend to readily take “no” or “impossible” as satisfying answers to the ideas we dream up. This trait leads us to innovate and to achieve the “impossible” time and time again.

The Unmanned Systems industry represents millions of innovative concepts, brought to life in tangible form. Many of these seemingly impossible ideas have emerged from a global need for relevant and timely information, previously thought to be unattainable, and a refusal to step down from a challenge. Insitu’s unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) represent some of these “impossible” concepts. Our systems are built to complete the information chain of task, collect, process, exploit, and disseminate information. We understand our customers’ need for our systems to do more than inundate them with data. Rather, they need our systems to produce information that enables them to make decisions. Basically, each facet of the system is designed with the overall goal of better informing decision makers, by providing them with the invaluable commodity of knowledge.

Decision-making

Most of us make hundreds of decisions a day. Selecting a mug in which to pour your coffee each morning, for example, is a decision with an outcome so mundane that we often don’t realize we decided something. Choosing which car to purchase however, is a decision that requires extensive research, test-driving, and sometimes even the making of “Pro” and “Con” lists. These information-gathering efforts help ensure that you make the best decision for your particular transportation needs. The outcomes of decisions vary significantly, and when we face decisions with high-impact outcomes, it’s crucial to acquire as much information about the situation as possible before taking action.

Getting the information

We empower you to command and control your operation through our user-friendly interface which allows you or our UAS operators to construct plans, task aircrafts, operate payloads, and capture actionable information for your team, all in one place. Our UAS are designed to meet your need for high-quality and high-value information. The agility, versatility and precision of our technology, combined with robust operational procedures and extensive hours of flight experience, result in the reliable collection and delivery of information to your team, wherever you need it.

Using it wisely

It’s one challenge to gather information; it’s another to use it constructively. Our comprehensive approach ensures that you are not left with a pile of critical data and no way to use it. Once you’ve acquired the necessary information, our intelligence tool steps in to help you process and exploit (get the most out of) that data.

Putting it in the right hands

After your raw data has been analyzed and exploited into actionable knowledge, tools like Catalina™ are used to disseminate that information to the teams with decision-making responsibilities. Whether your operations are to monitor wildlife and agriculture, to efficiently respond to emergencies, or to ensure the safety of civilians, our family of systems will safely and effectively provide you with the information needed to make decisions with confidence.

Superiority delivered

Our duty is not simply to place information in your hands; it’s to empower you to use that information productively in your decision-making process, so that you can achieve your ideal outcome. In other words, a safe and productive operation for you is a successful operation for us.
